The first updates 2019 close new vulnerabilities – and the old Windows 7 receives only one year patches. For Windows 10 1709, even earlier is over.
Jeden second Tuesday of the month provided Microsoft to be Windows operating system and other programs with updates. Apart from troubleshooting, the patches are above all the security of the PC, because they repeatedly plug dangerous security holes. The updates typically affect Windows 7, 8.1, and RT 8.1, as well as Windows 10 (and its server off-line), Internet Explorer, Edge, and Office. Of the recent 49 closed vulnerabilities, seven are critical. Internet Explorer has a gap (considered important), Edge plagues five holes (four critical).
Seven times Windows 10 – who gets an update?
So far, Microsoft has released seven major Windows 10 versions: 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709, 1803, and 1809. The last three variants are still in the Update Support window. Users of other systems go blank – or get upgraded to a more recent Windows 10 updates. The 1703er OS (called: Creators Update) received patches for the last time in October 2018! A similar fate befell Windows 10 1709 (Case Creators Update): On April 9, 2019 it receives updates for the last time. It is therefore recommended to switch to a newer system variant in order to avoid the update-out.
Windows 7Users, beware: In January 2020, the system receives security updates for the last time – then runs the so-called life cycle after ten years. The paid upgrade to Windows 8.1 or the free upgrade to Windows 10 extends the update provisioning for the PC.
Since November 13, you are resuming Windows 10 October 2018 , for which Microsoft has released the KB4480116 update. It raises the OS build number – more accurate than the 1809 versionindicates the level of development – at 17763,253. The update removes a vulnerability in “session isolation affecting remote PowerShell endpoints.” In addition, Microsoft wants to have tackled some bugs. The provider maintains updates for Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows MSXML, Windows Kernel, Windows Storage and File Systems, WLAN, Microsoft Jet Database Engine, Windows Linux, Windows Virtualization and Microsoft Scripting Engine.

According to the Microsoft changelog , it contains the improvements to the KB4480973update. No new features for Windows 10 Mobile
High-ranking Microsoft employee Joe Belfiore tweeted that Microsoft is no longer developing new features for the mobile version of Windows 10. Security patches continue to exist, according to the vice of the “Windows and Devices” division. Given the small market share and increasingly discontinued apps for the platform, this is a comprehensible step. Even Bill Gates no longer relies on the Windows smartphone platform, but on Android. Since the recent update KB4483203 is only a small consolation.
Safety first: Collective updates for Windows
Windows 10 updates are “cumulative,” which means “accumulative”: the monthly update packages include all previous security patches to keep computers protected regardless of version. With the Patchday in October 2016 Microsoft changed its update procedure with the earlier versions of the operating system: Since then Windows 7 and 8.1 do not receive numerous updates, but in each case a large accumulative update. How to handle it for a longer time for Windows 10.
That brings advantages and disadvantages. It is advantageous that the time required and the susceptibility to errors decrease – as well as the number of necessary restarts for the installations. Critical to the major updates is that you have to take everything in one go. Selective deselecting something no longer works. Conversely, savvy users do not deliberately remove a specific update that causes problems. This forces you to weigh whether you really want to sweep away all safety-critical bundled packets to fix a problem. With Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, functional updates can at least be delayed. This gives companies time to test patches for reliability. Larger feature updates are released twice a year for Windows 10.
Microsoft wants to provide users with latest developments in a timely manner. “Windows as a service” is the name of the new orientation: the operating system is even more closely linked to the cloud, with a modular structure. Incidentally, the many feature-enhanced model is the reason why Windows 10 is likely to receive infinite update support: Apart from the Enterprise-based LTSB version – now called the LTSC version (not available to individuals) – a new update release extends the update availability period.
